La Nouvelle Aquitaine is the largest region in France….but that doesn’t faze us at all, so we’ve devised this peaceful cultural circuit following river valleys possessing a wealth of heritage, good food and wine, local artisan-made products and a restful character.

“From Sarlat to Bordeaux : a thousand discoveries along by the Dordogne, the Vézère, the Isle and the Dronne.”

But we could just as well have called it “From East to West : 20,000 years of history are staring you in the face !”

UNESCO World Heritage Listed, the valleys of the Dordogne area will take you travelling beside the water… and back in Time !

Generations of French schoolchildren have admired this photo in their history books and dreamed wistfully about being little explorers.

Lascaux ! For many of us, it’s a synonym of history itself. Don’t miss this French Paleolithic gem, in which the impressive paintings will provide you with a window into the far distant past.

Go with the flow

The Dordogne and Vézère valleys provide a perfect, fascinating environment which is great to explore on foot, by bike… or on a “gabarre” or even in a canoe ! Take advantage of these moments of relaxation to observe the limestone cliffs, mediaeval towns or the dense vegetation of the Périgord Noir.

Bordeaux : capital of wine

Finally, the tour will bring you to the land of vintage wines : the mediaeval town of St. Emilion, Monbazillac and then Bordeaux : the Capital of Wine ! A very dynamic city, experienced in welcoming visitors in search of cultural activities and good restaurants, Bordeaux is the perfect place for a peaceful stopover. The quaysides along the Garonne provide the opportunity to admire flagships ready to reconquer distant lands or, for less ambitious explorers,  to enjoy the City of Wine to the full.
